Terms

Terms of use

By using Self Reliant Basics you agree to these terms. They are short and written in plain English.

General education, not professional advice

The guides on this site are general information about household emergency preparedness, food storage, home canning and gardening. They are not professional, medical, legal, electrical or emergency-management advice for your home, and they don't replace local officials, your utility, a licensed electrician, your county Cooperative Extension office, your doctor or your veterinarian. In an emergency, call 911 and follow the instructions of local officials.

You are responsible for your safety

Use your judgment and follow local laws and codes (for example on generators, fuel storage, building and electrical work). Follow the manufacturer's instructions for any equipment, and for home canning use only tested recipes and methods from the USDA or the National Center for Home Food Preservation. Quantities and timings in our guides come from published sources and are not promises that any plan will be enough in every situation.

Accuracy

We check every guide against its cited sources, but advice changes and mistakes happen. We don't guarantee that every page is complete, current or error-free. If you find a problem, please tell us and we'll correct it as described on how we write.

We link to other websites, including sources, Amazon and the sellers of products we review. We don't control those sites and aren't responsible for their content, prices or services. Prices we mention are as listed on the date shown and may change. See our affiliate disclosure for how links may earn us money.

Using our content

You're welcome to read, print and share links to our guides for personal, non-commercial use. Please don't copy whole guides or images to another website or product without permission. The logo and name Self Reliant Basics belong to us.

Limits of liability

To the extent the law allows, Self Reliant Basics is not liable for any loss or injury arising from use of the site or reliance on its content. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have that cannot be limited by law.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The "Updated" date shows when they last changed. Using the site after a change means you accept the updated terms. Questions are welcome through our contact page.
